Construction & Material Technology

Construction & Material Technology

SmartCore Burbank Oak flooring features our proprietary rigid core construction that combines limestone composite with virgin vinyl polymers. This creates a plank that won’t expand, contract, or telegraph subfloor imperfections the way traditional vinyl or laminate can.

The 12 mil wear layer on top includes aluminum oxide particles that resist scratches from furniture, pet claws, and daily foot traffic. Our Naturals & Hardwood Look collection uses advanced printing technology that captures real oak grain patterns, so no two planks look identical. The textured surface mimics hand-scraped hardwood without the maintenance headaches.

Installation & Subfloor Requirements

Installation & Subfloor Requirements

The click-lock system on SmartCore Burbank Oak flooring connects at both the long and short edges, creating a floating floor that installs over most existing surfaces. You can lay these planks directly over ceramic tile, sheet vinyl, or concrete as long as the subfloor is clean, dry, and level within 3/16 inch over 10 feet.

We recommend a 1mm foam underlayment on concrete substrates for added comfort and sound absorption. The planks cut cleanly with a vinyl cutter or utility knife, so you won’t need specialized tools. Most rooms install in a day once you’ve acclimated the product to room temperature for 48 hours.

Maintenance & Long-Term Care

Maintenance & Long-Term Care

Daily maintenance for SmartCore Burbank Oak flooring requires nothing more than sweeping or vacuuming to remove dirt and debris. For deeper cleaning, damp mop with our pH-neutral vinyl floor cleaner—never use wax, polish, or steam mops that can damage the wear layer.

The scratch-resistant surface holds up to chair legs, pet activity, and dropped objects that would dent softer flooring. If a plank does get damaged years down the road, the click-lock system allows you to replace individual planks without tearing up the entire floor. We’ve seen installations maintain their original appearance for decades with nothing more than routine cleaning.

Looks Like Real Hardwood in My Living Room
I was skeptical about vinyl plank flooring, but the Burbank Oak truly surprised me. The grain pattern looks authentic, and the color is exactly what I wanted—not too light, not too dark. We installed it ourselves in two days, and it's been perfect for our two dogs and active household.

Survived a Kitchen Flood With Zero Damage
Our dishwasher leaked overnight and covered half the kitchen floor. I was terrified the flooring would be ruined, but once we cleaned up the water, the Burbank Oak looked exactly the same. Not a single board warped or swelled. That waterproof claim is legit.

Installation Was Easier Than Expected
I'm not particularly handy, but the click-lock system made this project totally doable. The planks locked together smoothly, and I only needed a utility knife and a straight edge. Our bedroom went from carpet to beautiful oak-look flooring in one Saturday.

Holding Up Great to Heavy Furniture
We've had the Burbank Oak down for three years now, and it still looks brand new. We've moved furniture around multiple times, and I haven't seen any dents or scratches. The durability on this product is impressive for the price point.

Perfect Color for My Farmhouse Kitchen
The medium-brown tones are exactly what I needed to complement my white cabinets and butcher-block counters. The wood grain looks real, and visitors always ask if we refinished old hardwood floors. Nope, just SmartCore doing its thing.

Pet-Friendly Flooring That Actually Works
We have two large dogs and a cat, and the Burbank Oak has handled their claws beautifully. No scratches, no wear patterns by the door, and cleanup is so easy when they track in mud or spill their water bowls. This flooring was made for pet owners.

Questions About SmartCore Burbank Oak

Yes, the 100% waterproof construction makes Burbank Oak an excellent choice for bathrooms. The rigid core won't absorb moisture or develop mold, even around tubs and toilets where spills and humidity are common.

We recommend using silicone caulk along the perimeter where the flooring meets walls and fixtures to prevent water from seeping into the expansion gap. Many customers install this product in powder rooms, master baths, and laundry rooms with great results.

SmartCore Burbank Oak matches the medium-brown tones you'd find in natural white oak flooring with a medium stain. The color sits in the middle of the oak spectrum—warmer than ash or maple but lighter than walnut.

Our printing process captures authentic grain patterns from real oak lumber, so you get the cathedral and rift-sawn figuring that characterizes genuine hardwood. The main visual difference is consistency; vinyl maintains its color indefinitely while real hardwood darkens over time with sun exposure.

Burbank Oak planks measure approximately 6mm thick with an integrated backing that provides sound absorption. You don't need separate underlayment when installing over wood subfloors or existing vinyl.

For concrete substoors, we recommend adding a 1mm foam underlayment for additional cushion and moisture protection. The rigid core construction gives these thinner planks a solid feel underfoot that rivals much thicker products.

The rigid core technology in Burbank Oak resists denting from furniture legs, appliances, and dropped objects far better than traditional vinyl or laminate flooring. The limestone composite core provides exceptional compressive strength.

We still recommend felt pads under furniture legs for two reasons: they make moving furniture easier, and they prevent grit trapped under the furniture from scratching the wear layer when pieces shift. Refrigerators, pianos, and bookcases can sit directly on these planks without issues.

The click-lock installation system allows you to replace individual damaged planks without disturbing surrounding boards. For planks in the middle of a room, you'll need to carefully disconnect and lift surrounding planks to access the damaged piece.

We recommend ordering an extra box during your initial purchase to ensure color lot matching if you need replacement planks years later. Store spare planks in a climate-controlled space so they're ready when needed. Our customer service team can guide you through the replacement process step by step.

Yes, Burbank Oak works with radiant floor heating systems as long as the surface temperature stays below 85°F. The rigid core construction conducts heat efficiently without warping or releasing volatile organic compounds.

Turn on your radiant heat gradually over several days when first installed, and maintain consistent temperatures rather than dramatic fluctuations. This practice extends the life of any flooring product over radiant systems. Many customers successfully pair this flooring with electric and hydronic radiant systems in bathrooms and kitchens.

Each carton contains 19.38 square feet of flooring. Calculate your room's square footage and add 10% for cuts and waste to determine how many boxes you'll need.

For example, a 12×15 foot room equals 180 square feet. Add 10% for waste (18 square feet), bringing your total to 198 square feet. Divide by 19.38 to get 10.2 boxes, which rounds up to 11 cartons. This ensures you have enough material to complete your installation without running short or mismatching dye lots.
