Authentic Oak Character with Modern Performance

Authentic Oak Character with Modern Performance

The Stillwater Oak design replicates the dimensional grain texture and natural knots found in quarter-sawn white oak lumber. Our manufacturing process embosses the surface texture to follow the printed grain lines, creating realistic shadows and depth that change with room lighting.

Unlike traditional hardwood, SmartCore Stillwater Oak vinyl flooring withstands standing water, pet accidents, and humidity fluctuations without warping or cupping. The rigid core technology prevents the telegraphing of subfloor imperfections that can show through with standard vinyl. This makes Stillwater Oak an ideal choice for homes where naturals and hardwood look flooring is desired but moisture concerns rule out solid wood.

Installation Requirements and Subfloor Preparation

Installation Requirements and Subfloor Preparation

Subfloor Compatibility

Stillwater Oak installs as a floating floor over concrete, plywood, OSB, existing vinyl, or ceramic tile. The subfloor must be clean, dry, flat within 3/16″ over 10 feet, and structurally sound. We recommend a 6-mil polyethylene vapor barrier over concrete slabs below grade.

Click-Lock Assembly

Our patented click-lock system connects planks at a 20-degree angle, then presses flat to engage the locking mechanism. No adhesive is required, and planks can be disassembled and reinstalled if you move. Maintain a 1/4″ expansion gap at all walls and fixed objects using our color-matched molding accessories. Most residential rooms install in 4-6 hours with basic tools.

Care and Maintenance Instructions

Care and Maintenance Instructions

Regular maintenance preserves the factory finish and appearance of your Stillwater Oak planks. Sweep or vacuum daily to remove grit that can dull the surface over time. Damp mop weekly with our pH-neutral vinyl floor cleaner diluted per label instructions—avoid oil-based soaps, wax products, or steam mops that can leave residue.

For spills, wipe immediately with a damp cloth. The waterproof construction protects the core, but prolonged standing water can seep into seams if left unattended. Place felt pads under furniture legs and use walk-off mats at exterior doors to minimize scratching. Avoid rubber-backed rugs that can discolor vinyl over time. The 20 mil wear layer resists scuffs from normal foot traffic and pet claws without requiring refinishing like traditional wood floors.

Beautiful floors that handle real life
I installed Stillwater Oak in my kitchen and breakfast nook last month. The color is exactly what I wanted—warm but not too orange like some oak floors. We've already had several spills from the kids, and everything wipes right up. The installation was surprisingly easy for a first-timer.

Perfect for my basement renovation
Our basement gets humid in summer, so real hardwood wasn't an option. Stillwater Oak looks so realistic that guests think it's actual wood. I love that I don't have to worry about moisture damage near the utility sink area. The attached pad makes it comfortable to walk on barefoot.

Great quality for the price point
We compared several vinyl plank brands before choosing SmartCore. The Stillwater Oak planks feel substantial and the finish looks high-end. I installed 900 square feet in three rooms over one weekend. The click-lock system worked perfectly—no gaps or misaligned seams.

Holds up beautifully with two dogs
I was nervous about vinyl flooring with my two large dogs, but Stillwater Oak has zero scratches after six months. Their nails don't leave marks like they did on our old laminate. Cleaning up muddy paw prints takes seconds with just a damp mop.

Love the natural wood look
The grain variation between planks creates an authentic hardwood appearance. I appreciate that the embossing matches the printed wood grain instead of being random. The medium gloss finish reflects light nicely without showing every footprint. Very happy with this purchase.

Smart choice for our bathroom remodel
We installed Stillwater Oak in our master bathroom and it's been perfect. The waterproof core gives us peace of mind around the tub and toilet. The color complements our white cabinets beautifully. Installation was straightforward even in the tight space.

Common Questions About Stillwater Oak Flooring

Yes, Stillwater Oak features 100% waterproof construction that makes it ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and basements. The rigid core will not swell, warp, or delaminate when exposed to moisture or standing water. We recommend wiping up spills promptly to prevent water from seeping into seams, though the planks themselves remain protected.

Install with proper expansion gaps and use silicone caulk along tub and shower edges to create a water-tight seal. The attached underlayment provides cushioning and prevents water migration to the subfloor.

Stillwater Oak replicates the visual appearance of natural white oak with realistic grain patterns, knots, and color variation. The embossed texture follows the printed grain for dimensional authenticity. Unlike solid hardwood, SmartCore vinyl requires no sanding, staining, or refinishing over its lifetime.

Vinyl offers superior moisture resistance, dent resistance, and stability in humidity fluctuations. Real hardwood provides a solid wood feel underfoot and can be refinished multiple times, but requires more maintenance and costs significantly more to install. Stillwater Oak delivers the oak aesthetic with modern durability at a fraction of hardwood's price.

Stillwater Oak includes a pre-attached 1mm IXPE foam underlayment on the back of each plank, so separate underlayment is not required for most installations. The integrated pad provides cushioning, sound dampening, and minor subfloor imperfection smoothing.

For concrete subfloors below grade or in areas with moisture concerns, we recommend installing a 6-mil polyethylene vapor barrier between the concrete and the planks. This prevents ground moisture from affecting the installation. Do not install additional cushion underlayment over the pre-attached pad, as excess cushioning can stress the locking system.

Minor surface scratches often respond to our vinyl floor polish applied with a microfiber cloth, which fills shallow marks and restores sheen. For deeper scratches that penetrate the wear layer, use a color-matched vinyl repair kit to fill and blend the damaged area.

If a plank sustains major damage, the floating floor design allows replacement of individual pieces. Carefully disassemble planks from the nearest wall to the damaged board, remove the affected plank, and click a new one into place. Then reassemble the remaining planks back to the wall. Keep extra material from your original purchase for future repairs.

Yes, Stillwater Oak performs exceptionally well in homes with dogs and cats. The 20 mil wear layer resists scratching from pet claws far better than laminate or traditional vinyl. The waterproof core protects against pet accidents—urine and water will not damage the plank structure when cleaned promptly.

The scratch-resistant finish maintains its appearance with normal pet traffic. Keep pet nails trimmed to minimize surface marking. Place washable rugs in high-traffic pet areas and near food bowls to catch spills. The smooth surface makes fur and dander easy to vacuum or sweep, helping maintain better indoor air quality.

We offer color-matched transition moldings specifically designed for Stillwater Oak, including T-moldings for transitions to floors of equal height, reducers for transitions to lower surfaces like carpet, and end caps for doorways and stairs. These moldings install in a track system that accommodates the floor's expansion and contraction.

For transitions to ceramic tile at the same height, a T-molding covers the expansion gap while providing a finished appearance. When transitioning to carpet, use a reducer molding that ramps down from the vinyl height. Never butt Stillwater Oak planks directly against other flooring materials—always maintain the required 1/4" expansion gap and cover it with appropriate molding.

Stillwater Oak can be installed over many existing floor types including sheet vinyl, vinyl tile, ceramic tile, and engineered wood, provided the existing floor is clean, flat, dry, and firmly attached to the subfloor. Remove any loose material, fill low spots with floor leveler, and sand high spots until the surface is flat within 3/16" over 10 feet.

Remove carpet and padding before installation—vinyl plank cannot be installed over soft surfaces. Remove baseboards and undercut door casings to allow planks to slide beneath for a professional appearance. Existing floors with cushioned backing or excessive texture may require removal to provide a stable surface for the click-lock system.
